Personal
Hi everyone! My name is Nicholas Johnson, and I am currently a Senior in Computer Science & Engineering at UCLA. Outside of school I play Club Baseball for UCLA, surf, rock climb, and also love to go explore national parks! I founded Bruin Tutoring in the hopes of bringing my skillset in tutoring to a wider audience, and find a meaningful way to utilize the education and opportunities I have been given. I am willing to tutor any subjects for Elementary-High School, but I have a specialization in Math, Science, and Computer Science. However, I also excelled in standardized testing for English and essay writing and am willing to help younger students with their writing abilities. Additionally, I am looking to tutor any current college students in lower division Math or Computer Science courses, all of which I have successfully completed while maintaining a near perfect GPA.
Tutoring Background
I finished high school at the age of 15 and began attending community college at the same age. Within a year, I had been hired by the community college as an official math tutor on payroll. As part of this job, I attended a 5 week long course examining skills to help students of all backgrounds and abilities while tutoring. I then tutored math for the college over the two years I attended. Additionally, I tutor active UCLA students once a week as part of my membership in Upsilon Pi Epsilon, a UCLA Computer Science Honors society.
Work/Research
I have performed research in a variety of topics ranging from oceanographic chemistry to simulation of quantum devices. As part of my research I have been individually funded by the National Science Foundation and have also conducted work that is currently being utilized to seek government grants. I have industry experience as I worked for the Department of Defense on classified projects, which involved specialization in Machine Learning and Object Detection.
